Study Visit to Barcelona: Quality Assurance and Equity in Education

From 1 to 4 June 2026, representatives of the Slovenian Ministry of Education, the National Education Institute, the National Examinations Centre and the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Vocational Education and Training took part in a study visit to Barcelona. The visit focused on Catalonia’s approaches to education quality assurance, evaluation and governance, as well as the exchange of experience in education policy development.

The delegation visited Equitat, the Barcelona Education Consortium, the Catalan Department of Education and Vocational Training, the Hospital del Mar education and research centre, the newly established education evaluation agency, the education inspectorate, and a public and a private school. Particular attention was paid to translating research findings into policy, integrating data from different sectors, reducing educational inequalities, and promoting quality and excellence in vocational education and training.

The study visit highlighted the importance of evidence-informed decision-making, connecting internal and external evaluation, and providing systematic support to schools. The Catalan experience offered valuable insights for the further development of quality assurance, inclusion and equity in the Slovenian education system.
